The Framingham School Committee on Feb. 5 approved a package of administrative and policy items in unanimous roll-call votes.
The committee approved the proposed school committee department budget for FY 2026, which included additional salary funding to raise the executive assistant's pay and $9,600 added for interpretation costs for open-session meetings, and miscellaneous increases for professional development and graduation-related expenses. The motion was moved by Jennifer Moshe (District 3) and seconded by William LaBarge (District 9); a roll-call vote recorded "yes" from Districts 1 through 9.
On policy, the committee took second readings and approved a set of policies and implementing procedures, including ADC (Tobacco and marijuana use on school premises), ADF (Wellness), ECAC (Vandalism), EEAEC and related procedures for student conduct on buses, JI (Student rights and responsibilities), JICFA (Prohibition of Hazing), JJ (Co-curricular and extracurricular activities), JJIC (Inclusive Sports Participation), JK (Student Conduct), JICA (Student Dress Code), JICI (Dangerous Weapons in the School), JKAA (Restraint of Students in Framingham Public Schools), and JICFB (Bullying Prevention). The motion on second reading was moved by Jessica Barnhill and seconded by Rich Robles; the vote passed unanimously.
The committee accepted a group of gifts to Hemingway, athletics, Brophy and the district, including funds and in-kind items for assemblies, field trips and classroom support. A motion to accept the gifts was moved and seconded and approved by roll call.
The committee approved open-session meeting minutes from Dec. 18, 2024, on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Separately, the full committee voted to refer a Title IX policy review and a nonbargaining policy (GDD/GDDE support staff vacations and holidays) to the policy subcommittee for consideration in light of recent court decisions. That referral was moved by Adam Freudberg and seconded by Tiffany Maskell; the motion passed on a roll call of yes votes from Districts 1 through 9.
Why it matters: The approvals finalize department funding and policy text that guide committee operations and district practice. The Title IX referral signals the committee will review policies in response to recent court decisions and bring recommended changes through the subcommittee process.
All recorded roll-call votes noted in the meeting were unanimous across the nine voting district members.
