Jackson County Commission asks legislative delegation to seek local laws creating new fees to fund roads, schools and public safety

The Jackson County Commission voted on Feb. 24 to ask the county’s legislative delegation to introduce one or more local acts authorizing additional county fees that would be dedicated to roads, school resource officers, the sheriff’s office, volunteer fire departments and other county services.

The resolution requests that the delegation submit bills to the Alabama Legislature and directs legislative services to draft local-act language. If the delegation refers a bill, the commission said the proposed local law would be published in county newspapers for four consecutive weeks to allow residents time to review and comment before the delegation considers it during the 2025 session.
