City launches Civic Leadership Academy, schedules income‑tax forums and highlights Meals on Wheels deliveries

Mayor Wilder said the Civic Leadership Academy (CLA) will be an inaugural, free six‑month program intended to show residents how city government operates. The administration described the program as six three‑hour monthly sessions, two of which are scheduled on Saturdays to accommodate working participants; the deadline to apply is April 11, 2025. The city asked for six to eight residents to join the first class; sessions include tours and ride‑alongs with police, fire and public‑works staff. The announcement included a sign‑up web address: northcantonohio.gov/cla.
Finance staff announced two public forums to help residents understand the proposed income‑tax change and to use the online tax calculator. Ben (finance staff) said the first forum is March 13 at 5:30 p.m. at Dogwood Shelter and the second is April 11 at 3 p.m. at City Hall; both are two‑hour sessions where residents may get help using the calculator and asking questions.
Mayor Wilder also reported volunteer activity with Meals on Wheels and gave delivery figures: the city currently has 66 Meals on Wheels clients and, from October 2024 through the mayor’s volunteer day, staff counted 3,957 meals served to North Canton clients. The mayor praised Meals on Wheels staff and volunteers and said the program is seeking additional volunteers.
Administration also released the 2024 citywide annual report and a redesigned North Canton Sun newsletter; staff credited administrative specialists and photographers for the redesign and said residents offered positive feedback. The city encouraged residents to pick up copies at City Hall if they did not receive the mailing.
Councilmembers and staff encouraged residents to sign up for the CLA, attend tax forums, and participate in community events such as a community walk organized for April 6 behind the YMCA.
