Westmoreland supervisors report on retreat, local tours and trainings; MLK breakfast canceled

Supervisor Zingler said the board held a retreat at the Northern Neck Technical Center and praised the center as an educational asset. "If you don't know what the Northern Neck Tech Center is, you need to get down there and check it out. Best crown jewel piece of education in all of the Northern Neck," Zingler said. He added the board discussed supporting expansion of emergency-services training, including fire and EMS career programs.
Supervisor Ingram described taking the new county administrator on a district tour that included Westmoreland State Park, Stratford Hall, Glebe Harbor and Coles Point, and noted ongoing discussions about improvements on Cabin Ford Road. Ingram said he and the administrator visited many communities in District 2 to build connections.
Multiple supervisors thanked Sheriff's Department personnel after ride-along visits. Zingler thanked Sergeant Nick Fisher and Officer Hodges for a ride-along and a look at the 9-1-1 dispatch center; he also mentioned touring local businesses, including Parker Farms.
The board chair announced the MLK commemorative breakfast scheduled for the 20th has been canceled and that "another program will be put in place." The chair said the cancellation stemmed from the prolonged school closure and efforts to get schools fully operational. The board also noted a work session planned for the 27th conflicts with a PDC meeting and said it would consider canceling that work session if there was no pressing business.
Supervisor remarks also included an update that the board chair was recently reelected as chair of the Northlake Regional Jail board and plans to step down from that role at the end of his current term after 34 years of service with that board.
The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn was made and seconded; the chair called for a vote and said, "Ayes have it," adjourning the meeting.
