Veterans office reports large benefits awards; jail census and new dispatch center update provided

Dan Cullen, the county’s veteran service officer, reported to the board that in the most recent quarter he filed multiple burial-benefit claims and helped veterans file records requests; Cullen said the office filed 156 disability-pension claims in the quarter and that over recent reporting periods veterans in the county were awarded more than $28 million in benefits in the past year to come to veterans in the county.
Kyle (jail staff) delivered a brief operational update: the jail census stood at 20 inmates (18 in-house, 13 male and five female), with one male housed in Meade County and one female in Pennington County. Kyle told commissioners the new dispatch center is up and running, with a few technical glitches being worked on but generally functioning. Kyle also said teams resolved an initial problem with jail doors during the new system transition and that staff appreciated support from commissioners on the project.
Commissioners thanked the veteran service officer for the office’s assistance obtaining benefits for veterans and acknowledged the jail and dispatch updates. No formal action was taken on these informational reports.
