District seeks bids to replace wireless network hardware and software, plans to use E‑Rate discounts

Technology staff told the Papillion La Vista Community Schools Board on March 10 that the district has issued a request for proposals to replace core wireless network hardware and software and will use E‑Rate discounts to offset costs.
"The RFP is in conjunction with the e rate program," said Mr. Matt Moore, outlining that the scope includes replacing the wireless controller, management software, network access control software and physical access points. Moore said the district last completed such a purchase in 2020 and that the new procurement is part of the district’s five‑year technology cycle.
Superintendent Dr. Rickley added that the district has added "at least 8,000 additional devices" since the last refresh and emphasized the need for redundancy so a single network failure would not interrupt critical systems such as student information, cameras and classroom devices. Board members asked whether the replacement would support existing 1:1 deployments and future device growth; staff said evaluations are complete and that the project is being sized to accommodate expansion over the next cycle.
Staff said the district expects to use E‑Rate discounts (the previous discount was about 50 percent) and is finalizing cost proposals for board approval at a future meeting. No vendor was selected at the March 10 meeting; the staff presentation asked the board to note the RFP timeline and the planned April approval date.
