Chief Financial Officer Jeff Taylor presented the CMCSS board with the first reading of FY25 March budget amendments, saying the district expects an additional $6.1 million in general fund revenues driven largely by outcomes-based funding and higher sales tax receipts.
"Most of that is from the outcomes based piece of funding which was 2,979,000 and higher than anticipated sales tax revenues were adding an additional $3,000,000," Taylor told the board. He said the additional revenues require adjustments across payroll and expenditure lines and that staff would continue to monitor receipts through May.
Taylor outlined major shifts included in the amendment packet: increases in salary and benefits projections across regular instruction and special education lines, $400,000 added for a failing garbage truck in operations of plant, allocations for two additional classrooms at the Greenwood Complex (about $24,000), and phased moves of grant funds to match project plans including vocational education and an innovative school model grant. He also noted child nutrition vendor rebate increases and a federal high-cost transportation reimbursement of $150,869.
Board members asked clarifying questions. Board member Miss Bridal asked whether amendments reflected adjustments to original budget assumptions or simply spending updates; staff said some items were unexpected expenses (for example the truck) while others reflected updated payroll and grant alignments.
Because this was a first reading, no formal vote was taken. Taylor said staff would continue to watch revenue performance and might present an additional amendment in May. The board did not adopt or approve the amendments at the meeting.
