Public Works and the Town Manager updated the Council on several near‑term infrastructure projects during the March 10 meeting.
Water main crossing, Blackstrap Road
Gorham Sand & Gravel installed a 16‑inch gate valve and temporary cap March 7 and completed the 16‑inch main and 24‑inch casing for a planned crossing under the Turnpike. Contractors plan a short connection operation that will require a temporary water shutoff affecting the fire station, community hall and one nearby residence; notices are being sent to affected properties.
MDOT highway projects
MDOT crews performed test borings at the intersection of Blanchard Road and Main Street (near Sweetser’s Orchard) in preparation for a culvert replacement scheduled next summer. Town staff said the Millbrook culvert work is targeted for summer construction and that the Tuttle Road bridge replacement may begin in early July (right around July 4), with more detailed scheduling and right‑of‑way work under way. Councilors asked staff to invite MDOT to present project timing and traffic management plans to the Council before construction begins.
Crossing Brook silent second mortgages
Town staff reported they reviewed records for 49 Crossing Brook properties that carried a silent second mortgage from earlier land‑acquisition programs; 19 of the 49 mortgages have been paid off. Staff discovered three discharge documents that had not been recorded and corrected the filings so title searches will now show the discharge records.
Ending: The town will notify residents of the short Blackstrap connection outage and seek a joint MDOT briefing to lay out traffic staging and schedule for bridge and culvert projects.
