Board accepts Morello Park completion, approves emergency generator and creates Measure O bond account

The board accepted a notice of completion for the Morello Park Elementary School campus renovation and moved the project into its warranty period at the March 10 meeting.
Andy Cannon, presenting staff’s recommendation, said post-construction change orders were necessary after crews found rot under roofing and that overall the project closed with a roughly $48,000 deductive change order that will return to Fund 21. “After everything all said and done, we are finishing the project with those change orders and still having a $48,000, reductive change order,” Cannon said.
Separately, trustees approved a proposal to purchase and install a diesel backup generator at the district office. Cannon and other staff described recurring outages and ad hoc trailer generators as unreliable, saying a permanent installation will protect servers, phones and communications during community emergencies.
“We've had at least 10 power outages at the district office,” Cannon said. Staff recommended the unit be paid from Fund 35; trustees approved the purchase and installation, noting lead time estimates in staff’s procurement discussion.
The board also adopted Resolution 2025-20 establishing Building Fund 21 resource 0072 to hold Measure O bond proceeds after voters approved a $90 million general obligation bond. Andy Cannon said creating the separate resource will let the district track the new bond separately from older measures and direct funds to Alhambra High School, the junior high and adult-education projects.
All three items — the notice of completion for Morello Park, the generator procurement and the fund-resolution establishing Measure O proceeds — were approved by voice vote. Trustees and staff said they will continue warranty oversight for the Morello Park project and will return with timing and project plans for bond expenditures.
