Staff said the portables are more than 15 years old and that repairing them is less costly than buying new units (staff cited an estimated $750,000 cost to purchase a new portable).
The board approved the repairs and the funding transfer from deferred‑maintenance reserves. Trustees said photos and documentation would be useful for future communications about facilities needs and potential bond planning; staff noted the district will document the work and pursue state funding opportunities that could reimburse local investments.
The board also heard that portable condition affects licensing and programing (for example, after‑school uses) and that prompt repairs will keep the classrooms available for instruction.
