Board ratifies tentative agreements with teachers and classified staff; AB 1200 disclosures approved

The Buena Park School District Board of Trustees ratified two tentative agreements at its March 10 meeting: a settlement with the Buena Park Teachers Association for the 2024–25 school year and a settlement with the California School Employees Association (CSEA) chapter for classified staff covering the same year. The board also approved the AB 1200 disclosures tied to the agreements and corresponding certificated and classified salary schedules.
Board members praised the bargaining unit leadership and district management for reaching agreements in “good faith.” Trustees voted unanimously on both ratifications; the board recorded the motions and each passed 5–0.
Discussion during the ratification item included a question about the formatting of the certificated salary schedule: one trustee asked why the published schedule starts at column 2 rather than column 1. District staff explained that many districts no longer use a column 1 for emergency-credential hires and that the appearance of column 1 was a formatting leftover.
Budget staff later told the board that the multiyear budget projections presented in the meeting’s second-interim report do not include the salary increases from these tentative agreements; the district said it will incorporate those costs into an updated projection.
The board also approved related ministerial items — the certificated salary schedule and the classified salary schedule — with votes recorded as 5–0.
