Commissioners voted to fund local nonprofits and events, approve multiple right-of-way and easement purchases tied to road projects, authorize debt resolutions for pay-as-you-go road and drainage bonds, and renew federal grant applications for AmeriCorps Seniors programs. The commission also rejected all bids for temporary HVAC power-distribution upgrades at the Metro Jail after bidders exceeded the available budget.
The actions cover a mix of small sponsorships and larger capital and program requests. Notable approvals included an increase to an annual appropriation for the Gulf Coast Explorium Science Center, sponsorships for the Alabama Kidney Foundation and other community organizations, authorization to advertise bids for equipment upgrades, and several right-of-way easement purchases for county road projects. The commission adopted resolutions to accept bank proposals and call for issuance of pay-as-you-go bonds in two series totaling tens of millions of dollars for road, bridge and drainage facilities.
