York County Extension reports outreach, Double Up Food Bucks and upcoming NACEB conference

Cropper said she and Marie Krasnick attended NASAB legislative day in Lincoln to meet with state senators and discuss university-Extension priorities. She also reviewed the role of accountability-region educators who serve multiple counties and highlighted local activity by a food, health and nutrition educator based in Butler County.
Cropper described a partnership at Grand Central that participates in the Double Up Food Bucks program, which matches SNAP purchases of fruits and vegetables at point of sale. She said the incentive redeemed locally in 2024 totaled about $1,379.32 as reported by the educator; Cropper noted the program had previously been hosted at a different small store and gained more traction after the move to Grand Central.
Cropper also said Paul Brun (Bruni/Brun in the record), the county’s NACEB representative and NACEB president, is organizing a spring NACEB conference that will be hosted in York in June, and that she will return to present 4‑H program updates at a future meeting.
Why it matters: Extension programming supports county agriculture, nutrition, aging services and youth development; the Double Up Food Bucks program provides direct food-purchasing incentives for SNAP participants and is part of the county’s nutrition outreach.
