The Sanford City Council opened a public hearing Feb. 11 on the city’s application to assign a zoning district to land annexed into the corporate limits. City planning staff member Camille McNeil said state law requires a zoning designation be assigned to annexed property.
McNeil told the council the land had previously been the subject of a proposed conditional rezoning with a site plan, but that the applicant withdrew that rezoning before council action because unresolved sanitary sewer service issues prevented staff from advancing the plan. With the property owner’s permission, staff recommended the city retain the existing Residential‑Agricultural zoning until the owner is ready to pursue a future conditional rezoning with a site plan.
No members of the public signed up to speak on this item, the public hearing was closed and staff will retain the Residential‑Agricultural zoning on the record until such time as the owner seeks a rezoning.
