Sanford City Council on Feb. 4 directed the city clerk to investigate a petition for voluntary noncontiguous annexation of approximately 161.92 acres and set a public hearing for Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. in City Hall Chambers.
Planning staff (Montgomery) told the council the item had been presented in January and a public hearing previously set, but staff later identified an error in the petition and boundary map. For noncontiguous (satellite) annexations the applicable requirements in North Carolina General Statute 160D-802 require that all subdivisions be included; the original petition had omitted two lots from Waterview Estate off Cove Court Road, which required a revised petition and map.
Councilor Miss Rhodes moved to direct the clerk to investigate the corrected petition; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The clerk later certified the petition as sufficient, and council then adopted a resolution fixing the public hearing on Feb. 18 at 6 p.m.
Staff said the annexation area is located off Pendergrass Road and Steel Beat Bridge Road; the council set the hearing so the public can comment on the revised petition and map.
