Fillmore Unified readies Budi Sanchez Field grand opening; Rio Vista track, Piru site near completion

He said the Budi Sanchez Varsity Baseball Field (referred to in the meeting as Booty/Budi Sanchez Field) is essentially complete: sod and irrigation are installed, final punch‑list items such as the batter's eye were being finished, and a grand opening ceremony was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. the next day. RJ thanked Lee Construction (contractor) and West Group Design (design team) for their work.
Rio Vista Elementary's project was described as nearing completion. RJ said turf is installed, the track surfacing had resumed with two layers remaining, landscaping and sod work were planned, and the contractor indicated the site should be ready by Feb. 28 (punch list and maintenance period to follow). He said the site will be available for youth and community use following the district's facilities‑use approval process.
At Piru, RJ said the HVAC installation for the multipurpose building was ready for a community event and was approaching punch‑list closeout. He reported an asphalt pad and other paving are complete, the restroom building delivery was expected the following week, and two canopy structures are under construction. The larger athletic complex at Piru remains in the bidding stage; RJ said there had been strong contractor interest and the bid date was extended slightly to allow clarifying questions so construction can proceed with fewer surprises.
Trustees asked about CIF and DSA compliance for athletic facilities. RJ said Division of the State Architect (DSA) approval and standard inspections govern the projects; district consultants have compared plans and field measurements to CIF distances and the contractor adjusted pitching rubber placement after a plan discrepancy was discovered during on‑site checks.
Ending: No board action was required on the facilities update. Trustees were invited to attend the Budi Sanchez grand opening and district staff said they will continue to report schedule milestones and punch‑list status at future meetings.
