Commissioners approve $28,000 business-loan to support Tunnel Hotel and Trail Inn project

The Allegany County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a $28,000 loan from the county’s business expansion deferred loan program to support renovations at a property that will be branded as the Tunnel Hotel and Trail Inn.
Jeff Barton (economic development staff) and county staff briefed commissioners on the application. Staff said Adam Forshee and his family purchased a previously underused property and plan improvements over the next 12 months to serve trail users, scenic-railroad visitors and local customers. The loan will be spent from the program’s current fiscal-year allocation; staff said the county will evaluate reappropriating the program in the next fiscal year.
Forshee told commissioners the family studied traffic patterns in the corridor and believes the location can serve “hundreds of thousands of people” who visit the trails and railroad. Staff said the loan is an investment expected to increase property improvements and generate additional tax revenue over time.
Commissioners called for supporting local entrepreneurs and approved the loan by voice vote.
