Randolph County approved an expanded contract with Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist to extend and expand the county employee wellness clinic; staff said the clinic has high utilization and the increased cost is covered within existing health-plan budgets.
The Randolph County Board of Commissioners approved an updated contract with Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist to expand services at the county’s employee wellness clinic, known as the Stay Well program.
Sam (staff member) described the clinic’s first-year performance and requested an expanded contract that would add one part-time nurse practitioner and a full-time certified medical assistant. “We’ve averaged about 150 visits per month,” Sam said, noting the clinic’s 98% satisfaction rating in 2024 and that onsite pharmacy dispensing totaled about 1,000 prescriptions last year.
Sam told commissioners the clinic has generated productivity savings and contributes to employee retention and recruitment. He said current health-plan funds can absorb the higher annual contract amount — from roughly $409,629 to about $617,722 under the new agreement — and that the county expected to lock in a 5% inflation increase for a year-and-a-half term in the proposed contract.
Commissioners asked about hours and utilization; Sam confirmed the clinic operates 40 hours per week, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and staff said the program does not require additional county funding because anticipated savings would offset the increase. A commissioner moved to approve the updated contract and to authorize the county manager to sign; the board approved the motion by voice vote.
The contract expansion aims to increase capacity and add biometric screenings for spouses in 2026, which staff said could reduce claims costs further.
