Gail Peltier, a Mount Pleasant resident, told the Village Board on March 10 that her house at 5907 Regency Hills Drive has been struck three times by impaired drivers and that the drivers were speeding.
Peltier said drivers have hit the house three times and listed possible countermeasures she had heard about: speed bumps, rumble strips, a guardrail and a flashing stop sign. "So our house was hit by a drunk driver," she said. "All 3 are speeding. And the first time, we didn't have a stop sign. Second 2 times, we did." She said a flashing sign used in the past might help.
Village President did not take questions from the dais but suggested follow-up. "No. We're not gonna take questions. Appreciate your thoughts. If you wanna speak to the police chief on the way out, he's in touch with, Public Works, you know, all the time and maybe there's a conversation there," the president said.
The board did not take formal action during the meeting on traffic-calming measures. The president indicated the police chief and Public Works would be the next point of contact, signaling staff-level follow-up rather than an immediate policy decision.
Peltier's comments came during the public-comment portion of the March 10 meeting; no other public commenters signed up that evening.
