District technology staff told the board the company that won the wide‑area‑network contract needs an easement across Jonker Elementary School to trench and install cabling. The vendor (identified in the meeting as Chantelle) requires a short easement from the closest point off Merriman’s Lane; staff said the route runs along the fence line and will not require work on the playing field.
Staff said the company has provided a draft easement it has used with other school divisions and the division’s legal counsel is reviewing that draft. Because the vendor must have equipment and cabling ready by June 30 under its contract, staff said they plan to process the easement review in parallel and bring the final easement to the business meeting in two weeks for board approval.
Board members asked whether the neighboring church would need to grant access if its property is on the route; staff said they would, and that if the church refused the vendor would trench along the street and still require an easement to reach the school. Members also asked whether the work would affect parking or athletic fields; staff said the trench would follow the fence line and would not require removal of field surfaces.
Ending: staff will return the easement agreement to the board at the upcoming business meeting and requested no action at the work session.
