EDA subcommittee schedules two community listening sessions in March to broaden outreach

Edgewood — The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) subcommittee briefed the City Council on Feb. 18 and announced two community listening sessions intended to reach residents who do not usually attend council meetings.
Council member Jeff Southern, reporting for the subcommittee, said the first session is scheduled for March 6 at the Mountain View Community Center after the community dinner, and a second session will be March 25 during the Tuesday senior lunch. The subcommittee described the format as open‑ended listening rather than a formal presentation: volunteers will listen, ask a question or two for clarification, and collect issues the public raises.
"The whole point of these is that we're being inclusive and trying to hear from an audience that doesn't necessarily come to a council meeting," said Erica (subcommittee member), noting that selecting venues with existing audiences was intentional to increase participation.
Council members asked about venue choice and whether the format differed from an open house; subcommittee members said convenience and established partnerships with Mountain View Community Center made scheduling and outreach easier. The subcommittee said it will use feedback from these initial sessions to plan additional efforts at other locations if needed.
Next steps: the subcommittee will hold the March sessions and report results back to Council; Council members were invited to attend.
