The East Wenatchee City Council held a public hearing March 4 on Ordinance 2025-O2, interim regulations addressing how transitional housing and permanent supportive housing are treated under the city’s zoning code.
Curtis, a city staff member, told the council the interim control followed earlier council action and legal review that identified inconsistencies between the East Wenatchee Municipal Code and state law (RCW) and the federal Fair Housing Act. "This is regarding an interim control for our interim regulations regarding transitional housing and permanent supportive housing within the zoning code," Curtis said, explaining the city adopted the interim control on Feb. 4 and must hold a public hearing within 60 days when findings were not adopted at that time.
Curtis said the interim action permits transitional and permanent supportive housing within residential zoning districts and clarifies they are permitted in commercial zones. He said the council had adopted findings of fact in the ordinance’s recital section, but that those findings could be amended after public comment if the council chooses.
No members of the public spoke on the item at the hearing. The council closed the hearing; staff and the council said the ordinance will return on a future agenda for formal action and any amendments based on public input.
