Planning staff told the Yakima City Planning Commission on Feb. 12 that the city's periodic comprehensive-plan update is underway and that a public-participation plan and outreach schedule will be published soon.
Staff said they are coordinating with Yakima County on population estimates and assessments and expect to circulate a public-outreach plan this month so the commission can schedule public meetings and engagement opportunities tied to the periodic update and to any incoming comp-plan amendments. The city will consolidate individual comp-plan amendments into the periodic update this year, staff said, to make implementation of any future land-use changes easier.
Commissioners asked for a timeline and details on the consultant BERC's scope of work; staff said a Gantt chart and scope exist and are being refined to reflect the public-outreach plan and that staff will distribute an update and the timeline to commissioners ahead of a future meeting. Staff also said they will provide a quarterly update on dwelling-unit openings and plan approvals at a forthcoming meeting.
Ending: Staff will circulate the public-participation plan and BERC timeline when available and return to the commission with an implementation schedule and a quarterly dwelling-unit report.
