Waste Management raises Ogden Valley rates 5%; commission to align county administrative fee with Western Weber

Weber County staff informed commissioners that Waste Management will implement a 5% rate increase for Ogden Valley solid-waste service effective April 1, 2025. Under Waste Management’s calculation, a typical single-container customer would see quarterly charges rise from $63.96 in 2024 to $66.87 in 2025 (a $2.91 increase per quarter).
Staff reminded commissioners that the county recently reduced the Western Weber county administrative fee from $2.00 to $1.50 and asked whether to make the same adjustment for the Ogden Valley. Commissioners expressed support for consistency and directed staff to reduce the Ogden Valley administrative fee to $1.50 per month; staff said it will prepare the required ordinance amendment for a future meeting.
Commissioners also discussed the Waste Management contract, which runs through April 2026. Staff advised that when the new city assumes jurisdiction, the contract will transfer to the new city; commissioners said they preferred to let the contract run through April and then allow the incoming city leadership to decide whether to rebid or extend. Staff noted some operational and revenue items (parking lots, dumpsters, and contract revenue) may transfer to the incoming city and that the county will meet with the new city council after the November election to coordinate the transition.
No immediate change to service was ordered; staff will prepare an ordinance amendment to adjust the administrative fee and continue transition planning with Waste Management and the incoming city.
