Public commenter urges academy to connect students to TechForce Foundation network and aviation pathways

Steve D'Mourish, a trustee on the Westside Union School District board and president of the Antelope Valley School Board Association, addressed the Palmdale Aerospace Academy District board during public comment to describe the TechForce Foundation and its opportunities for students interested in transportation and aviation careers.
D'Mourish said TechForce is a national nonprofit that connects students (age 13 and older) with industry professionals, online resources and scholarships. He told the board the foundation recently expanded its aviation partnerships to include the Universal Technical Institute (UTI) and that the foundation hosts job postings, contests and award programs that can help local students build resumes and access scholarship opportunities. He noted aviation employers in the region such as Northrop Grumman, Boeing and Lockheed Martin and said the local Fox Field campus has been a strong contributor to aviation and avionics graduates.
D'Mourish provided a printed flyer and said he would be willing to return for a longer presentation; the board did not engage in discussion because the comment was a non-agendized item.
"We provide scholarships, but to access the scholarships, they're a needs-based scholarship and you need to join the network," D'Mourish said, referring to techforce.org and the organization's student resources and contests.
