Council authorizes BMK to prepare bid packages for street projects; funding from SPLOST

The Dawsonville City Council on March 3 approved an engineering services authorization for BMK Construction & Engineering for three street projects — Maple Street, Richmond Drive (Richmond Subdivision) and Maple Hill Townhomes — at a proposed cost of $77,250, to be paid from SPLOST funds.
Public Works staff said BMK will provide engineering, bid packaging and cost estimating across three identified tasks and help the city prepare the projects to be bid. Hunter Bucknell, representing BMK, told the council the firm has inspected the projects and will manage the work to get the city to bid ready status; staff noted BMK works with the county on similar projects. Robin Gazzaway, finance director, confirmed the work will be funded by SPLOST.
Councilmember Ill made the motion to approve BMK’s scope and cost; Councilmember Phillips seconded and the council approved the authorization. Staff said additional design drawings and bidding steps will follow under the BMK scope.
