Lake County School Board adopts student-discipline policy updates and approves minutes, consent agenda

At its Feb. 24 meeting the Lake County School Board unanimously approved final versions of three student-discipline policies after a public hearing, and approved minutes and the consent agenda by 5-0 votes.
The Lake County School Board on Feb. 24 held a public hearing and gave final approval to three district policies on student discipline and related procedures: Policy 05/2010 on removal, suspension, alternative disciplinary placement and expulsion of students; Policy 5006 11 on due process rights; and Policy 57 71 on search and seizure.
Mr. Cole opened the public hearing and asked for public comment; hearing none, the board closed the hearing and the superintendent recommended final approval. A motion to adopt the policies was made by Mr. Mathias and seconded by Mrs. Cunningham; the board voted 5-0 to approve the policies.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved minutes from the Feb. 3 workshop and the Feb. 10 regular meeting. That motion was made by Mr. Mathias, seconded by Dr. Luke and passed 5-0.
The board also approved the consent agenda items 8.01 through 10.02 on a 5-0 vote. The superintendent had recommended approval of the consent agenda.
No public speakers addressed the policy items during the hearing. Attorney Cole reported no additional legal items. The superintendent offered routine district announcements and condolences to an Education Foundation staff member; board members made brief comments congratulating award winners and acknowledging upcoming events.
