Lake County Education Foundation reports $42,000 in sponsorships, announces grants and upcoming events

Dr. Elizabeth Johnson, executive director of the Lake County Education Foundation, told the Lake County School Board on Feb. 24 that the foundation raised $42,000 in sponsorships during its recent Teacher of the Year celebration, surpassing a $36,000 goal.
The foundation named Lisa Bryant of Lake Manila High School as Lake County Teacher of the Year and submitted her application for state-level consideration. "We received $42,000 in sponsorships, with our goal being $36,000," Johnson said during her presentation.
Johnson said the foundation will hold a Night of Stars recognition event on March 4 to honor teachers, school-related employees and the district's Alumni Hall of Fame. Other upcoming events include a sold-out sporting clays fundraiser on March 7 in Sumterville and a rescheduled Read Across the World event planned for March 25 at Triangle Elementary. A "Ladies for Education" event is scheduled for April 25; registration details will be posted online.
On program developments, Johnson said the foundation secured a multi-year grant to support expansion of allied health and nursing career and technical education (CTE) programs at Southlake and Leesburg High Schools. The grant amount was stated as $101,250 over three years. She also reported that the foundation's Apple Mart store in Leesburg logged 608 visits this year, which Johnson said equates to $94,402 in school supplies distributed to teachers.
Applications for the foundation's Take Stock in Children scholarship program closed last week with 65 student applications, a 14% increase from the prior year; staff will begin interviews after spring break. Johnson also thanked volunteers from Lake-Sumter State College for service work at Apple Mart and other foundation activities.
The foundation closed its report by inviting board members to the district events and by asking that district social media channels share event registration information.
