Council approves Georgia Tech contract for feasibility study funded by grants

The Dawsonville City Council on March 3 approved a contract with the Georgia Tech Enterprise Innovation Institute to conduct a feasibility study for a local project, with staff saying grant funding will cover the cost so no city funds are required.
Amanda Emmerson, Downtown Development, told the council two grant sources were available to pay for the study: Georgia Power, which staff said supports the project because it could create business opportunities for agricultural commerce, and funding routed through the U.S. Department of Commerce that would be administered by Georgia Tech. Emmerson said that if the feasibility study demonstrates a workable model, the project could be replicated by other communities.
Councilmember Bill moved to approve the contract; Councilmember Sawyer seconded and the council voted to approve. Emmerson said the grants mean there would be no direct expense to the city for the study.
No public comment on the contract was recorded during the meeting.
