The City of Buckeye City Council on March 4 adopted Ordinance No. 06-25 to annex approximately 3.7 acres near Jack Rabbit Trail and Roosevelt into the city’s corporate limits under the procedures of Title 9, Chapter 4, Article 7 of the Arizona Revised Statutes.
Andrea Marquez, senior planner with the City of Buckeye Development Services, told the council the subject parcel is roughly half a mile south of Interstate 10, is currently an active enclosed light-manufacturing business, and is zoned in Maricopa County as IND-2 (light industrial). On adoption of the ordinance the parcel will be assigned the city’s Buckeye light-industrial zoning (I-1), which staff said is the closest city district to the parcel’s current county designation.
Marquez said the petition to annex was recorded Jan. 6, all required notices were completed and there were no public comments specific to the annexation at the time of the hearing. The first public hearing on the annexation was held Feb. 4. Tom Hunt of Hunt Architects was listed as the applicant and was present online.
The council opened the public hearing, heard no speakers, closed the hearing and voted to adopt the ordinance. A council member moved to approve; a second was made; the motion passed unanimously.
Why it matters: Annexation brings the parcel under city permitting and zoning, enabling the owner to pursue future improvements and storage expansion under Buckeye regulations rather than Maricopa County rules.
