Flagstaff City Council on Feb. 18 approved a cooperative purchase contract to buy three specialized Ford F-150 responder trucks after staff explained the vehicles were not available at local dealerships and were needed to replace fire-department units down for collision and mechanical failures.
The item was pulled for public comment (Consent item D). Kelly Cullen, a long-time Flagstaff business owner, urged the city to exhaust local resources and give local dealerships a chance to quote before buying from out of state. "Buying locally creates jobs, keeps money in the community and reduces environmental impacts from shipping vehicles long distances," Cullen said.
