Greene County signs intergovernmental agreement with Montgomery County on Sugar Creek sewer master plan

The Greene County Board of Commissioners on March 6 authorized entering into an intergovernmental agreement with Montgomery County to develop a joint sewer collection master plan for the Sugar Creek watershed.
County staff said about 35 percent of the wastewater flow to the Sugar Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant originates in Greene County while about 65 percent comes from Montgomery County customers. The counties will split the cost of the joint master planning work according to that flow split, staff said.
Officials said the joint planning effort will examine undeveloped Greene County and Montgomery County areas that will flow to Sugar Creek, to inform when and how much the counties must spend on future upgrades. Commissioners asked whether expansion would require new buildings; staff said previous large projects at the facility were largely tanks and technology upgrades and that the site has available land for expansion.
The board voted to authorize the intergovernmental agreement. The action directs county staff to finalize the agreement with Montgomery County and proceed with the joint planning process.
