Superintendent announces $300,000 tech integrator grant; updates on redistricting, literacy and strategic planning

WEST SENECA, N.Y. — During the March 4 board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Krueger reported that the district secured a $300,000 grant to fund a technology integrator position and related efforts to boost student and parent engagement through technology.
"We have a $300,000 grant ... intended to help us to increase and enhance student engagement and our parent engagement," Dr. Krueger said, crediting staff member John Delbo for originating the idea. The superintendent said the grant will help restore a tech integrator role that was eliminated during last year’s budget reductions.
Dr. Krueger used her report time to highlight school programs and events: elementary schools participating in a “One School, One Book” program; a West Senior performance at Disney Springs by the Bel Canto Singers; a Clinton Elementary dental-hygienist visit for dental-health month; and CPR/AED/first-aid certification for Academy of Life Sciences students provided by Catholic Health. She also recognized winter-sports achievements, including a state-level wrestler and record-setting performances by basketball players.
On redistricting and reconfiguration, Dr. Krueger said the district held a community forum on Feb. 27 that presented multiple options for addressing enrollment and class-size concerns at Allendale and Clinton elementary schools and space issues at West Middle School. The district posted a recording of the forum online and established a Google form and QR code for stakeholder feedback; the superintendent said the committee is seeking input and plans to narrow options to two or three semifinalist plans for board consideration.
Dr. Krueger also described work by the district’s strategic planning committee. The committee has analyzed baseline academic and behavioral data (attendance, suspension, Regents/regents-style results and grades 3–8 New York State assessments in ELA, math and science) and will next examine social-emotional indicators and family engagement. To inform the plan, she said the committee will visit a Boys & Girls Club in East Aurora on March 6 and launch a ThoughtExchange survey to gather stakeholder priorities for a three-to-five year strategic plan. Dr. Krueger noted the district is exploring a family support center and the possible creation of local Boys & Girls Club programming because West Seneca currently lacks a club.
Ending: Dr. Krueger closed her report by calling attention to upcoming events — middle- and high-school music collaborations, a superintendent’s conference day on March 7 (no students in session), and East Middle School’s musical on March 20–22 — and thanked the board for supporting her attendance at a recent state leadership institute.
