The Lawrence County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 25 proclaimed March 2025 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, noting the county DD program serves more than 600 individuals and encourages inclusion across the community.
"Now, therefore, the Lawrence County Commissioners do hereby proclaim the month of March 2025 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and we encourage all citizens to help make our community a place where everyone feels like they belong," Deanna Holliday, vice president of the board, read from the proclamation.
Julie, a representative of the Lawrence County Developmental Disabilities program, thanked the commissioners and outlined a schedule of events. "I just wanna say thank you for your continued support for Lawrence County Developmental Disabilities... We have a lot of great events coming up, and we look forward to seeing everyone there," she said.
County staff also announced a March 22 chili fest to benefit the DD program, with vendors and about 20 chili entrants, and a free family fun fest on April 29 supported by an Ohio Children's Trust Fund/Nationwide Children's Hospital award (a $10,000 regional grant noted by staff). Commissioners approved the proclamation by voice vote during the meeting; the proclamation was signed by President Colton Copley, Vice President Deanna Holliday and Commissioner Mike Finley.
The board encouraged community participation in DD Awareness Month programming and said details would be posted on county social media and websites.
