Resident presses commissioners to advance Bridal Road 3467 petition after paperwork delay

"The reason that I wanna bring this up is because this is a failure of government," Snapier said at the meeting. He said paperwork submitted years earlier reappeared in November 2023, that some signers have since died, and that petition language and signature counting created further delays.
Snapier asked the commissioners to make sure the petition is processed and to consider blacktopping the road and renaming it for Donald Long, a Lawrence County Medal of Honor recipient. He said he had gathered signatures quickly and resubmitted corrected paperwork after officials raised technical concerns about the original form.
Commissioners and staff described the formal process for converting a private drive into a township or county-maintained road. They said the county engineer must review petitions, confirm whether the township trustees have been consulted and determine whether the road meets standards before a final acceptance or dedication can occur. Commissioners told Snapier they would forward the petition to the county engineer for review and copy the Perry Township trustees.
The board approved a motion "to receive and refer the petition for Bridal Road 3467 to gravel maintain and blacktop to the Lawrence County engineer's office for review and cc the Perry Township trustees." The vote was recorded as: Mike Finley, yes; Deanna Holliday, yes; Colton Copley, yes. The motion passed.
Commissioners and staff also cautioned that acceptance typically requires the road to be brought to county standards and that some administrative steps — including precise petition language and township input — may still be required before final dedication.
After the vote, commissioners told Snapier they would work with him and county staff to correct any remaining petition language and to expedite review where possible.
