Grant County sheriff reports 864 calls in February; jail to receive inmates from Gallatin County under contract

Sheriff Dennis reported to the Grant County Fiscal Court on March 5 that the sheriff’s office responded to 864 calls in February, investigated 28 collisions, issued 76 citations and made 29 arrests.
Dennis told the court the office opened 55 criminal investigations, served 175 combined criminal and civil summonses and performed 253 auto inspections in February. He also reported that the department’s canine, Bacs, is now certified in narcotics detection. Dennis said three applicants for the sheriff’s office have advanced to phase two of the hiring process, which includes a polygraph and drug screen; results typically take about 10 days.
During the judge’s report, court officials said the jail’s inmate count has been increasing and that, because of that, the county has a contract with Gallatin County to accept some inmates. The judge said transfers from Gallatin County will be implemented slowly and inmates will be placed into the Grant County detention facility as space permits. The court did not provide a timeline or projected numbers for transfers during the March 5 meeting.
