Grant County fiscal court approves claims, advertises road-material bids; hears two zoning first readings

The Grant County Fiscal Court on March 5 approved the Feb. 18 regular meeting minutes and a set of claims for multiple county funds, voted to advertise bids for road materials for fiscal year 2025–26 and took the first reading of two zoning ordinances scheduled for final consideration March 18.
The court — called to order by the presiding judge — approved the minutes on a motion by Magistrate Humphrey, seconded by Magistrate Riley; the court voted verbally in favor. The court then approved claims covering the general, road, jail and opioid-settlement funds and associated transfers on a motion by Magistrate Riley and seconded by Magistrate Humphrey; the motion passed by voice vote. County officials noted that Magistrate Shauna was temporarily disconnected during part of the meeting due to internet issues and was not recorded as present for some votes.
In another approved motion, the court authorized advertising requests for bids for the Grant County Road Department’s materials and supplies for fiscal year 2025–26, including sand, gravel, asphalt and salt. The motion to advertise bids was made by Magistrate Humphrey, seconded by Magistrate Riley, and passed by voice vote.
The court also held first readings of two zoning ordinances. Ordinance No. 0001-2025-0284 is a request from Craig Pennington for a zone change on a 5.9413-acre parcel described in the application as located near Case Lane/Frontage Road No. 8 and Interstate I‑70, approximately 225 feet south of Sherman Mountain Zion Road in Grant County; the request would change the property from its present Residential A (R‑1A) classification to Rural Residential. Ordinance No. 0002-2025-0285, submitted by United Skilled Service, requests a zone change for two lots at 3650 Baton Rouge Road, Williamstown, Kentucky, from Agriculture A1 (A‑1) to Residential A (R‑1A); the application states one lot has an existing house and the other is being separated for a future house and that each lot is roughly 1.5 acres. Both ordinances were read for first reading and are scheduled for second reading and final action at the court’s March 18 meeting at 6 p.m.
No final votes were taken on either ordinance at the March 5 special meeting. The court’s agenda also included routine reports from county offices but no substantive old- or new-business motions beyond those recorded above.
