Lucas County honors child support attorney Doug Marciniak after 37 years of service

The Lucas County Board of Commissioners publicly honored Doug Marciniak, an attorney in the Division of Child Support, at a commissioners meeting where colleagues and union representatives recognized his retirement after 37 years of service.

Marciniak said he began his county career in 1987 after being offered a position as an assistant prosecuting attorney in the child support division and that the agency became a freestanding Child Support Enforcement Agency under the board effective Jan. 1, 1988. He told the commissioners that an early condition of his hire was a full-time schedule from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, a commitment he said remained important through his career. "It has been an amazing journey over the last 37 years," Marciniak said.

The gathering included personal recollections from coworkers and a statement from Kim Navarette, who identified herself as union president for UAW 2320. Navarette thanked Marciniak for his service and described him as a longtime colleague and friend. Colleagues recounted routine practices such as weekly Chinese lunches, courtroom experiences and mentoring younger attorneys. One longtime coworker, identified as Sid, recalled watching Marciniak at the court of appeals and other moments that shaped their shared workplace history.

Marciniak closed his remarks with advice he said he took from public figures and literature, urging kindness and persistence as he described plans to spend more time with his wife, Annette, and new grandchild, Madeline Marie. The commissioners presented a certificate of appreciation before moving on to other agenda business.

No formal board action beyond the presentation and certificate was recorded for the retirement segment.
