The Morrow County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 24 approved a $59,650 contract with Jay Ramp Electric Corporation to relocate Wincomb equipment at the Morrow County Airport and received staff updates on airport systems and fueling plans.
County staff said the airport's automated weather observation system (AWOS-3) is online and certified and that the airport has been using the system. Staff also reported a phone access option for the AWOS data intended for pilots. Commissioners directed staff to make that contact information available to airport users.
The board voted to remove two existing units at the airport as part of the relocation and to install a new unit nearer the airfield entrance; the approved contract with Jay Ramp Electric covers that relocation. The motion passed by roll call with the three commissioners recorded as voting yes.
Staff advised the commissioners that the airport fueling project is advancing but remains dependent on tank production. Officials said they expect to have fuel tanks delivered and operational in a September—6October time frame if the tanks are produced on schedule. That timeline follows funding set up and approved by the commissioners late last year.
In addition to the relocation contract, the board approved final pay applications related to recent airport electrical work; staff confirmed the work is complete and payments were processed. Commissioners discussed publishing the AWOS phone number on the county and airport web pages so pilots and other users can access current conditions.
The actions affect aircraft operators who use the Morrow County Airport and the airport's routine operations; staff indicated certification and payments are complete for the work that is finished, while the fueling project remains contingent on external manufacturing timelines.
The board did not set new deadlines for the fuel delivery; staff will return with updates as production and installation proceed.
