The Butler County Board of Commissioners authorized a county financial commitment of $10 million toward the Liberty interchange (Milliken) construction project and agreed to execute an intergovernmental agreement with the Butler County Transportation Improvement District (TID) and Liberty Township.
County staff said previous contributions to the project include $1.5 million in preliminary engineering from the TRAC (Transportation Review Advisory Council) committee and $9 million awarded for right-of-way purchases. The county administrator reported that Senator Lang secured $8.5 million from the state’s strategic investment fund for additional right-of-way work, and staff said Congressman Davidson is pursuing an additional $3.5 million toward the project.
The county’s $10 million commitment is described in the agreement as the county contribution toward the required local match; TRAC is expected to provide 50% of construction costs as available, which leaves the remaining local match to Liberty Township and other local partners. County staff said the agreement includes conditions and authorizes the county administrator to take necessary actions to effectuate the contract.
Commissioners voted to authorize the agreement and the financial commitment. The authorization followed staff remarks summarizing prior funding and the project’s financing structure.
