Communications Director Casey presented the communications department’s fiscal‑year priorities: increase in‑house video production and photography, expanded youth‑council programming, community engagement surveys and implementation of web accessibility tools to meet Department of Justice guidance.
Casey said the Department of Justice updated guidance requires municipalities under 50,000 population to make websites and mobile apps accessible by April 2027. She proposed using a web governance tool called Monsido to scan the site for accessibility issues (missing alt text, broken links, missing headings) and provide a toolbar that lets website users adjust font size, spacing and a screen reader. Casey said an initial scan put the town’s site at about 66% accessibility versus an industry target of 91%.
The communications program also seeks to maintain a professional photography contract, reduce contracted videography by producing more video content in‑house and expand LinkedIn recruiting use. Casey emphasized youth council programming and in‑house promotional efforts — for example, short videos the department produced to promote events and completed projects.
Council members asked about archiving existing video content and about internship opportunities; Casey said archived material exists on Vimeo and the department will standardize platform use and expand internship and youth engagement programs where appropriate.
