Commission lowers Johnny Hall Road speed limit to 30 mph after sheriff's study

The Dickson County Commission voted March 3 to set the posted speed limit on Johnny Hall Road at 30 miles per hour after a sheriff's office study showed most drivers already travel near that speed.
Commissioner Gray asked the sheriff to present the results of a 10-day speed study. The sheriff reported the road — a little over a mile running from Kathy Hollow to Saunders Mill with about 27 houses — had an 85th-percentile speed of about 31 mph in one direction and 29 mph in the other; only four vehicles exceeded the existing 45 mph limit during the study. The sheriff recommended lowering the posted limit to 30 mph because the roadway has several curves, limited shoulders and a number of homes along the route.
Commissioner Graves moved to change the speed limit to 30 mph; Commissioner Williams seconded the motion. The commission approved the change by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the work-session minutes.
Ending: The new posted speed limit will be implemented following standard county sign replacement procedures.
