Residents urge improved road maintenance as commission adopts annual road list

During the public-comment period Robin Barnett, a District 6 resident who identified herself as a nurse, described repeated safety problems on local roads and said maintenance was inconsistent. "The excessive potholes and complete absence of snow removal on many of the county roads," Barnett said, "They are chip and seal, which is a cheap form of pavement." Barnett told commissioners her road has not been resealed in 12 years and said the condition has made sections effectively gravel.
The board later considered resolution 20250204, which adopts the county road list for the calendar year and includes names, locations, surface types, widths, lengths and newly accepted roads. Commissioner Thacker moved the resolution; the minutes show the motion passed (recorded as 12 yes, 2 absent).
Commissioners and members of the public flagged discrepancies between the posted PDF road list and local knowledge. Speakers pointed out missing road names (for example, Whittier Valley Road) and questioned whether some roads were misclassified on the surface-type field. Road Superintendent Danny Jones responded that crew assignments are typically complaint-driven and agreed to re-check the list and correct surface-type classifications and any missing entries.
Commissioner Thomas asked the superintendent to clarify surface-type codes; Jones confirmed that the label "ASP" in the list refers to asphalt (chip-and-seal), and that "GRBL" denotes gravel. Jones said he would review the reported discrepancies the next day and update commissioners.
