The Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education on Feb. 27 voted unanimously to accept several recommendations from its RFP evaluation committee, award construction and repair contracts, adopt multiple policy revisions and to approve a notice of intent to terminate and suspend an employee without pay.
The actions move forward the district—s capital-improvement work on projects funded by the voter-approved bond and update board policy language on consultant performance and facility renaming.

The three contracts total $449,718.14 when the three line items are added as listed. (Motion approved; unanimous roll-call yes.) - Exterior masonry repairs: The board accepted bids from Midcontinental Restoration, Inc., for masonry repairs at Francis Willard Elementary ($83,942) and Wyandotte High School ($218,165). Board discussion showed those two line items were treated as priority repairs; combined line-item total (sum of the two amounts) is $302,107. Among the policies discussed were FC (renaming/naming of properties), CJ (use of consultants), DFH and ICA (second-read approvals), and several additional policies that were on third read without change. The board discussed and removed a previously proposed numerical threshold in the consultants policy; language now notes consultant performance will be evaluated using the district—s evaluation tool and that performance will be considered prior to contract renewal. (Motion(s) approved; roll-call votes recorded.) - Personnel resolution: The board voted to adopt the resolution to issue a notice of intent to terminate an employee and to suspend that employee without pay. What board members said and next steps Board members who served on the selection committees described a lengthy review process that included multiple interview days and scoring. Superintendent Anna Stubblefield and facilities staff (mister Wayne Correll, mister Steve Lilly) were listed as recommending the RFP committee—s selections.
Staff indicated the masonry and bleacher projects address identified safety and maintenance needs and that work will be scheduled with schools to limit classroom disruption. The board asked staff to continue monitoring vendor performance; CJ (use of consultants) was amended so performance will be evaluated before any renewal, without a fixed numerical cutoff.
Ending Board members and staff described the actions as milestones in the bond-driven facilities program and noted substantial planning remains before construction. The agenda contained additional consent items and public comment; staff said contractors and finance teams will return with implementation details and timelines as projects move into procurement and construction phases.
