PUEBLO — The Board of County Commissioners voted March 4 to approve an impact-assistance grant application to the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife seeking payments in place of property taxes for parcels exempted by the division for tax year 2024.
Assessor Frank Beltran told commissioners the application must be filed by Friday and said staff completed the submission. “It just has to be to them, and it’s just bringing in, I think $131,400 dollars,” Beltran said, indicating the figure as his current estimate.
Beltran explained that the payment varies over time depending on property holdings and mill levies. “It varies. It will stay the same every two years or thereabouts depending on if they get rid of some property or if they buy some more property or take in some more property,” he said, and noted that higher mill levies increase the payment total.
Commissioners approved the application without further conditions. A motion to approve item 1(b) was seconded and the vote carried unanimously.
Background: Payments from the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife offset local taxes on properties the state parks division holds that are exempt from regular property taxation. The assessor’s office compiles and submits the application that documents the exempt parcels and computes the payment request.
