City manager warns of winter storm; city services and pickups may be affected

City Manager Mr. Brand warned council members that the city is expecting winter weather later in the week and asked residents to monitor city communications for service updates.
"They're saying between 2 and 4 inches," Mr. Brand said, noting that North Carolina weather can vary and that sleet and freezing rain could raise the risk of icing on roads. He said city crews have already pretreated streets with brine and that NCDOT crews have treated state roads.
Mr. Brand said the city is most concerned about ice rather than the snow amount and that the storm could affect public office openings and solid waste and recycling pickup on Thursday morning. He advised residents to watch the city website and local news channels for updates.
Mayor York added a safety reminder urging residents not to travel unless necessary if roads become slick.
The city did not set any closures or cancelations at the meeting; staff said they will assess conditions and post updates if services change.
