The appointments followed a motion from Council Member Hunter Thrift, who presented the personnel committee's recommendations for multiple boards. The council voted 7-0 to approve the slate.
The personnel committee recommended appointments to the Beautification Advisory Board (Carol Brown, Olivia Lardy, Molly Lassiter, Paula Peters, Myra Scott Gray and David Stanley); Golf Advisory (Fred Bookman, Yvette Hicks, Keith Tobin and Bradley White); Historic Preservation (Steve Teglis and Maddie Thrift); Planning Board (Oren Jeffries, Eric Couple and Chris Myrick); Recreation (Kathleen Surrette); and Tourism (Tommy Ballard, Gloria Brinkley, Joe Gray Sr. and Dana Lumba). Council Member Hunter Thrift moved the recommendations. The motion was seconded and then approved unanimously, 7-0.
Separately, the council approved a personnel committee motion to appoint Grama Pilar to the ABC board; that motion was seconded and approved 7-0. Mayor York later announced a mayoral appointment that does not require council confirmation: Ron Richardson was appointed to another term on the Housing Authority.
No discussion or dissent was recorded in the meeting minutes regarding the appointments. The council clerk was directed to record the votes and file the appointment paperwork.
The approvals fill vacancies on advisory bodies that advise the council and staff on planning, historic preservation, recreation, tourism and other local matters. Filled advisory seats allow those bodies to continue regular business and provide recommendations to the council.
