School committee approves Cape Cod Collaborative articles amendment to admit Plymouth; new collaborative director introduced

The Barnstable School Committee voted Friday to approve an amendment to the Cape Cod Collaborative articles of agreement to accept Plymouth Public Schools as a new full member effective July 1.
Hope Hanscom, the collaborative’s new executive director who started in January, introduced herself to the committee and described the collaborative’s services that serve member districts from Provincetown through Wareham and (with Plymouth joining) into Plymouth. “It’s a wonderful place that provides some amazing services to all of our kids,” Hanscom said.
Why it matters: Plymouth had been participating as an adjunct member and voted earlier in the month to join; DESE requires amended articles and member district approvals for the change. Committee members said accepting Plymouth strengthens the collaborative’s enrollment base and helps sustain specialized programs amid a regional enrollment decline.
Vote details: The motion to approve the amended articles passed on the committee floor with a majority vote; one committee member recorded a nay and the motion carried. The collaborative and the town will proceed to execute the amendment paperwork and update DESE filings.
