Council to consider HNM annexation area for action on March 18

The Shelton City Council voted on March 4 to place a resolution of intent to annex the HNM annexation area on the council’s March 18 action agenda, Senior Planner Jason Doss said.
Doss described the request as a notice-of-intent filing for roughly 2.5 acres of vacant land on Capitol Hill, north of the city limits on the north side of Chestnut Street. The resolution to be considered is numbered 1368-0225 and cites RCW 35.14.120, the state statute governing municipal annexation notice procedures, Doss said.
Under the applicant’s proposal the property would receive neighborhood residential zoning—Shelton’s standard single-family designation—and the annexed area would accept any existing city indebtedness associated with annexation, Doss said. Doss told the council no formal development application has been submitted; he said the property owner may seek a short plat or subdivision in the future.
The motion to place Resolution 1368-0225 on the March 18 action agenda was moved, seconded and carried by the council. The March 18 meeting will be the next opportunity for council members and the public to hear fuller staff analysis and public comment on the annexation proposal.
If the council takes final action after the March 18 hearing, the annexation would proceed under the statutory process called out in the resolution; the transcript does not record a final annexation vote on March 4.
