Committee hears update on MSBA eligibility work for a possible new Everett High School; item returned to sponsor

Superintendent and city finance staff updated the Everett School Committee on Feb. 25 about the district's work in the Massachusetts School Building Authority eligibility period for a potential new high school.

The superintendent summarized documents submitted over the last year, including a compliance certification, the establishment of a school building committee, an updated chapter 74 vocational-technical viability document and enrollment and capital-maintenance documentation. City finance staff said the packet also included financial information on outstanding indebtedness and potential future debt for MSBA review.
The superintendent said the district has completed the materials required for the eligibility period and is waiting for the MSBA to complete its review and invite Everett into the feasibility phase. Committee member Ms. Babcock said the MSBA process is complex and requested additional time for the committee to review details. The committee voted to refer the MSBA feasibility-study update back to the sponsor for further work and clarification.
The motion to return the item to sponsor was adopted by voice vote.
